Labor Day is Another Opportunity to Promote American Workers!

In 1884, the United States Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September “Labor Day". It became a national holiday to honor American workers for the skills, strength, prosperity and well-being they provide to America’s economy.

Since the first Labor Day celebration 130 years ago, many things have changed for American workers. In recent years, we saw businesses moving manufacturing overseas which caused Americans to lose jobs and economic stability. As America’s national elected leaders looked the other way, the heart and soul of America’s industries and workforce were being lost to outsourcing. However, I’m pleased to report that this Labor Day with the help of millions of Buy American Made Campaign supporters, we are seeing more businesses opening which will benefit American workers.

America has 29 million private sector businesses that provide jobs for over 120 million Americans representing the self-employed, local businesses and large corporations.  However, in order to restore stability in America we need at least 40 million more private sector jobs. As we celebrate Labor Day, I urge you to look for every way possible to support America’s businesses so all working age and able-bodied Americans can celebrate the Labor Day holiday without the stress of being unemployed.

As always, your asked to support your local businesses throughout the year and during National Small Business Weekend, the first Friday, Saturday and Sunday of every month.  Today, small businesses employ over 60 million Americans and with your help that total will continue to grow.
