Review Your Own Purchases

As we continue to promote the Buy American Made Campaign, I ask that you take a few minutes to make your own report card on the purchases you made during the last year to see if at least 50% of what you purchased was made in America.

From the responses I receive from my commentaries, people often tell me they made purchases on impulse without considering where products were made. During these changing times, you’re encouraged to bear in mind how your purchases affect American jobs and America’s economy.

Today I ask that you make a list of the items you purchased during the last 12 months. Look closely at the tags on clothing, shoes and boxes from radios, televisions, toasters, computers and cell phones, just to name a few, to see if American workers participated in the manufacturing of the products. Quite frankly, the technology to manufacture these products was largely invented in America, but is now being used by foreign companies to manufacture items and then export them to the U.S.A.

As you write down the items you purchased and the places they were manufactured, you will come to realize the importance of working toward bringing back more manufacturing jobs to the U.S.A. If 50% of your purchases are American made, I compliment you for seeking out American made products. If most of your purchases have supported workers outside America, I ask that you go out of your way to support the Buy American Made Campaign every time you go out shopping so we can bring back a balance between American made products and foreign imports. Let me know how you make out.

This is Michael Blichasz, and as always, I appreciate hearing from you. I welcome your comments and suggestions and ask that you spread the word to others. You can email me from my Internet site at:
