As we prepare to celebrate America's Independence on the 4th of July, it is another opportunity for us to focus on the ideals of freedom, peace and justice that make America great and another opportunity to unite behind the goal of improving America's economy. For centuries, people of every nation and creed journeyed to America in search of freedom and opportunity. Many came to stake a claim in the vast American frontier; others sought employment during the Industrial Revolution, while others sought political asylum from oppressive governments. As we look at events throughout the world, we are reminded of even more reasons to honor the foresight of our founding fathers as they gathered in Philadelphia to work on the text of the July 4, 1776 Declaration of Independence, which marks its 250th Anniversary in 2026. I urge you to honor the ideals of the 4th of July every day by supporting American workers and the private sector businesses employing them. Because of your actions, more Americans will be able to enjoy not only the freedom we cherish, but also have every opportunity possible to support themselves and their families and be part of the American dream. I believe if our forefathers were in charge of America's economy TODAY, America would be more economically secure. As you celebrate with your family and friends, let them know how important it is to support local community businesses throughout the year and during National Small Business Weekend which is the First Friday, Saturday and Sunday of every month.
