During the last 25 years, the New Global Economy saw many nations of the world investing in industries that would employ their people and expand their economies. We see the success of their efforts every time we go shopping or look at the labels on the products that surround us. Today many of America's long established industries have opened up manufacturing abroad, or contracted with companies in other nations to produce what should still be largely manufactured here in the U.S.A.
I am focusing on the clothing industry as one example that NEEDS major changes because everyone needs to purchase clothing. In 2011, over 90% of the clothing sold in America's stores is imported. What happened to America's Garment and Textile industries? More importantly, what are we as AMERICAN consumers going to do to help restore the clothing industry in the U.S.A.? If we work toward restoring just 50% of the clothing industry in America from the production of the items, to the design, distribution, marketing, and sales, America's clothing and fashion industry would be able to restore around 20 million jobs in the U.S.A.
During this spring and summer season, go out and shop determined to support American made products FIRST. I know it's not always easy, but there are still American made products in stores and we have to keep those products moving off the shelves and keep Americans employed. As you go shopping it is also your opportunity to speak up in support of the Buy American Made Campaign and to demonstrate that you are willing to bypass products and stores in your search for American made products. You see for yourself what happened to this one industry in the U.S.A. We can’t all it to continue!
I urge you to join the growing number of people speaking up in support of American made products, because it is time to shift the New Global Economy so it benefits America! With your help we will see more Americans get back to work and AMERICA'S economy growing again.
