In 1621, the First Thanksgiving was celebrated by the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts to give thanks for their first harvest in the new world. A national day of Thanksgiving was first requested by President George Washington from the United States Congress in 1789 and it became a federal holiday at the request of President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. For hundreds of years, Americans have been gathering with family and friends to express their gratefulness for all that we have in a land with many opportunities. As we begin the Thanksgiving and Holiday Season, I urge you to support America’s businesses who proudly manufacture their products in the United States of America so that more workers can be grateful to have a job to support themselves. Supporters of the Buy American Made Campaign have joined our efforts proclaiming November as “American Made Month” which urges all Americans to support American made products and businesses operating in America so we can expand jobs and job skills for Americans from the point of production to the point of sale. During the holiday season, carefully consider the gifts you plan to purchase for family and friends to ensure as many American workers as possible will benefit from your purchase. I urge you to shop with the well-being of American workers in mind so that the businesses employing them remain successful and able to keep people employed. Discuss the goals of the Buy American Made Campaign with others and look carefully at labels before you make your purchase. Here are a few additional ways you can help:
Together our supporters have been making a real difference helping American workers and the businesses that employ them. We are changing the way business is done in America as consumers go out of their way to support America’s businesses and the American made label. Your help is appreciated. Thanks for spreading the word.
